In the Reds’ big game at Platte Valley, a touchdown and field goal wasn’t enough as they suffered a 14-10 loss Saturday, September 21.

The Broncos jumped on top early on the first play of the game with a long run for a touchdown. Later in the second quarter, the Reds were able to drive down the field and kicker Jose Lopez (22) booted the ball through the uprights, making the score 7-3 going into the half.

Eaton came out at the second half strong scoring on a four-yard touchdown pass from Scott Grable (21) to Javi Hernandez (20) in the end zone. All momentum was on Eaton’s side until a missed call occurred on a fumbled punt by Platte Valley that resulted in Platte Valley’s ball.

Soon, Platte Valley marched down the field and scored another touchdown, putting them up 14-10 mid-fourth quarter. With the Reds’ last dying chance to make a comeback, an interception came about on Platte Valley’s side and they were able to seal the game.

Coming out of the game, Juan Maravilla (21) said, “I feel like we played very well, just some unfortunate turnovers and missed assignments.”

With playing at Platte Valley in the past, Derek Renfroe (20) said, “Playing at Platte Valley is a tough environment to play in with their home field and crowd, both teams played tough and it was a tough loss.”

The Reds’ next match up takes place September 27 against Bishop Machebuff at Eaton for their homecoming game.
