The Christmas season cannot be completed without a cozy drink in hand, and that’s why coffee shops around the world have dropped their limited-time menus almost immediately after Halloween. Many Eaton High School students have purchased and tried these new items. Local shops like Ziggi’s Coffee and Scooter’s Coffee are extremely popular during the school week, as they are just minutes away from the school. Shops like Starbucks and Dutch Bros are located at least 15 minutes away, so are not as commonly bought by students. However, they all share special and delicious drinks that fit perfectly into the holiday season.
Ziggi’s Coffee has several new drinks and has added the Christmas menu while still keeping the fall drinks in circulation. They offer the Sparkle N Spice, Sleigh’n Dirty (which is a spin on their classic Ridin’ Dirty but combines Dr. Pepper, eggnog, cinnamon syrup, and nutmeg), Chai Nog, Eggnog Latte, and Candy Cane Crunch Latte. Aya Kinoshita, a senior at Eaton High School, purchased the Chai Nog the week it came out. She said, “It was so good. Usually, I am not a fan of Ziggi’s chai, but the Chai Nog was perfect. I think the eggnog is what made the chai taste better than normal. Also, the name is awesome and catchy to say.” Fun flavors and names make the drinks all the more merry.
Scooter’s Coffee has chosen a theme for the year, as they have in the past. This year, it is “Elf” themed, based on the popular movie. Some drink options include the Buddy the Elf Caramelicious, Buddy the Elf Maple Chai, Candy Cane Forest Mocha, Swirly Twirly Sugar Cookie Latte, Cherry Cheer Sparkling Soda, Mr. Narwhal, Son of a Nutcracker, and Glacier Red Bull Infusion. They also offer new food items, such as the Candy Cane Forest Cinnamon Roll, Swirly Twirly Sugar Cookie Sandwich, and Snowball Fight Cake Bites. Olivya South (28), who tried the Swirly Twirly Sugar Cookie Latte, said, “It really got me in the mood for Christmas and had a good mix of sweet flavors.” Needless to say, all of these treats embody the movie perfectly and add a new level of fun to purchasing a Christmas-themed drink.
Starbucks has brought back some classic flavors, including popular drinks like the Peppermint Mocha, White Chocolate Mocha, Caramel Brulee Latte, Sugar Cookie Breve or Latte, and Gingerbread Chai. Trinity Salberg (26) visited the shop and bought the Iced Gingerbread Chai. She said, “I think it was so good, and tasted exactly how a gingerbread chai should taste.” With the drinks tasting accurate to their names, these drinks are taking off this season.
Dutch Bros has released the Hazelnut Truffle Mocha, Candy Cane Mocha, Mistletoe Rebel or Lemonade, and Holiday Cookie Latte or Freeze. This shop tends to be exceedingly popular with EHS students, regardless of its semi-far distance from Eaton. Addyson Manning, a junior this school year, said, “I got the Holiday Cookie Freeze from Dutch. It made me feel in the Christmas spirit. I was so ready to start the holidays, and it was so yummy.” This coffee shop knows how to make cozy drinks, full of cheer.
Christmas drinks typically remain on the menu until a week or so after the day itself, so be sure to try out a few before they disappear for the year.
