The fourth Conjuring is officially in theatres this fall. On Sept 5, 2025, The Conjuring: Last Rites was released by Warner Bros Pictures. The Conjuring movie is based on the real-life experiences of Roger and Carolyn Perron and their five daughters. The Perron family moved to a farmhouse in Rhode Island in 1971, where they began to experience extreme paranormal activity. These experiences were later documented and adapted into a movie. With the assistance of Ed and Lorraine Warren, the paranormal investigators in this case, as well as Andrea Perron, the oldest daughter of the Perron family. The franchise began in 2013 with the release of the original The Conjuring. The movie was a hit in the horror genre, earning an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie was recognized for its realistic settings, clothing, and other elements. Despite the movie being filmed in 2013, they were still able to capture the aesthetic of 1971. While filming The Conjuring, the real Lorraine Warren, who conducted this paranormal case, made a cameo appearance in the original movie as a background character. With her being part of the mind of this case, she was also credited as a consultant for the original movie.
The Conjuring movies include The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2, The Conjuring: The Devil made me do it, and the most recent The Conjuring: Last Rites. While many different people think the movie is a run-of-the-mill one or doesn’t add much, others believe it is the best Conjuring yet. Many reviewers stated on Google reviews that it is the best conjuring yet, leaving the audience with the perfect finale. The Conjuring: Last Rites Is on the Smurl Family. The real family moved to a new home in 1973 and began to experience minor issues, such as foul odors and noises resembling pig grunts. The paranormal activity began to intensify with things such as scratches, pulling, and even physical and sexual assaults. Jack Smurl, the father, claimed he had been sexually assaulted by a succubus. A succubus is a female demon who appears in a man’s dream to lure them to sexual activity. The family endured this activity for 12-13 years until Ed and Lorraine Warren got involved with the case in the early 1980s.
While The Conjuring: Last Rites captures the case, it is extremely exaggerated. Including details that were believed not to have happened. As well as the movie, the real case had a lot of mixed feelings. Some believed that the Smurl family was speaking the truth, while others believed the family had Hysteria. Hysteria is a mental disorder that causes a person to act irrationally and live in a state of extreme fear. Though this was a controversial topic, paranormal activities have helped make the top-rated horror films. The Conjuring movies are full of surprises and plot twists. EHS student Luz Delgado (27) said, “I want to watch the new Conjuring for the jump scares. I personally like how each movie is based on a different paranormal case.”
Jerry Mcmongale said in a Google review, “The Conjuring is a cinematic achievement that has earned its place among my all-time favorite horror movies. It has an uncanny ability to tap into our deepest fears while simultaneously forging a bond with the characters that stays with us long after the credits roll. For horror enthusiasts seeking a truly immersive and unforgettable experience, The Conjuring is a must-watch that will leave you breathless and craving more.” The original Conjuring was loved for not only its accuracy for the time frame, but also for the moments full of suspense. The movies focus on genuine scary moments rather than relying on gore. The movie was loved by the actors who fully sold themselves to their characters. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson were praised by many for their portrayal of Ed and Loraine Warren. Farmiga and Wilson were included in all four of The Conjuring films.
