Traveling around the world and seeing all the different things that this world has to offer makes people well-rounded and overall happier. Traveling makes people more worldly in many different aspects, such as being able to see all different types of cultures, religions, and even different lifestyles.
There are no two countries that are exactly the same, which is why traveling to many different places makes students well-rounded and helps travelers have all different perspectives on life. Not only does traveling help people become more cultured, but it also makes people happier overall. “Frequent travelers are on average 7% happier with their life compared to people who do very little or none at all. People who travel frequently also say that 85% of their travel is a direct correlation with their long- term happiness. According to the article “Frequent travel could make you 7% happier,” written by communications staff at Washington State University.
Traveling has many other health benefits, including mental health benefits, and makes relationships stronger. When people travel, they miss their loved ones and have time to reflect on all those whom they love back home, including friends and family.
Raegan Fields is a student at Eaton High School who has been traveling her whole life and has experienced many different things through traveling.
Fields (26) said, “The people you travel with you spend almost every second with them, so if it is good or bad you stay with them so you bond a lot through that in a lot of ways,it builds your relationship and it makes you miss the people at home also and realize how lucky you are to have them.” Traveling helps people in many ways build stronger relationships.
Traveling is very expensive, so it is easy to understand why a lot of people don’t travel on a regular basis. Traveling around the world is something students should experience, because of all the benefits it offers. There are other factors to traveling, such as having to take time off work. When people have time to take a break, it is nice to get out and see all the things the world has to offer.
When people travel, they get to see all the different ways that people live this life, and if people stay in the same country or place their whole life, they never really experience all the different aspects of “life”. There are so many different ways that people view the world, like someone who has lived in a third-world country versus a first-world country. People who have been born and raised in the United States sometimes don’t understand how fortunate they are to live a life with opportunities such as the ones they have.
There are opportunities offered at Eaton High School, where, during some summers, students can travel to different countries overseas, such as Ireland, Australia, and other countries. Chad Shaw is the teacher at EHS who organizes all of these trips.
Shaw said, “ When you go to different countries, you get to experience different things such as different languages, culture, food, and different things in general.” He said, “It helps students become more well-rounded individuals, see what is out there beyond Eaton”.
This upcoming year, Shaw will be taking a group of EHS students to Greece in 2026, and in 2027, Shaw will take students to Germany and Poland. Giving students the opportunity to see the world and discover all the different things that are out in this world also helps them decide what they want to do in the future. If students have only been exposed to a fixed number of different people and careers, then their future may end up unfulfilled. Traveling opens people’s eyes up to many different things and has many different benefits for the lives humans want to live.
