Eaton football obliterates Fort Lupton

Eaton football players with standout performances

The Eaton High School football team took their fifth win of the 2022-2023 season, making them 5-1 overall and 2-0 in league play. The game was a confidence boost for the team as they continue progressing their way into league play.

The boys had a dominant performance against the Bluedevils, taking a 52-6 win. There are always players who are able to step up and play at another level. Zac Grable (23) had a total of 22 points; a combination between touchdowns, field goals, and an interception against the Buedevils. The way a player preps for a game can determine how they play. Grable said, “I had really fresh legs and was ready to play again after coming off a bye week, but my coaches and teammates really helped me get physically and mentally prepared for the game and are always preparing me in the right way for the game.” Mindset and confidence can be a big part of success in sports. Grable said, “We are very confident in our team and we all think we have a chance of winning another ring.”

Wide receiver and cornerback Austin Martinez (23) had a standout game also with a pick-six in the first half, and two other interceptions as well. Martinez has played a big role on both the offensive and defensive side for the Reds throughout the season thus far, as well as being a senior leader on the team. Martinez said, “It feels nice getting another win, but we are taking it one week at a time to win that week and then focus on the next and the next.” The mentality of a player and a team has a big impact on their access on the playing field. The physical side of the game is just as important as the mental side. Martinez said, “We got a Mamba Mentality. We are glad we got the win and wins throughout the weeks, but we know there is more that needs to be done and refined so we can win that state title.”

The Eaton Reds football team still has three games left in the regular season but they have proven that they have a chance to get back to a state championship for the third year in a row.
