Spring is just around the corner and so is a new track season. Preseason practices have already begun for athletes interested in starting their training early for the upcoming season. Official practice begins on February 28. Last season, COVID restrictions affected the team numbers and the season greatly, so hopefully, this season will return to normal. This season’s team captains are seniors, Allyson Weichel (22) and Joseph Sisneros (22). Both Weichel and Sisneros have goals they are looking forward to this season. Weichel said, “I’m hoping that we can bring the team together and create more of a team rather than the separation.” Sisneros agreed on bringing the team together but also added that the team should be more prepared for the season.

Last season, the girls sprint medley team, girls and boys 4×1, boys 4×2, boys 4×4, boys 4×8, and many other individuals went to state. The girls sprint medley team won a state title with a time of 1:51.10. After last season’s success, Weichel has hopes for more success this season. Weichel said, “I really look forward to seeing a bunch of relay teams qualifying for state and a bunch of individuals. That would be awesome if we had a really solid running team this year.” Sisneros believes that everyone will do great, especially if their mindset is, “the hard part is practice, the easy part is competition.” Weichel and Sisneros both just want the team to be the best they possibly can be. Sisneros said, “Just go out every single day and be able to give our best effort.” Good luck to the track team and don’t forget to support them at their meets!
