Coming back from Christmas break, boys basketball had two Denver matchups last week Jan. 6th and Jan. 8th. Starting the trip down to Bishop Machebeuf, the boys pulled out a 78-66 win against the Buffaloes. Leading the Reds was Mitch Haythorn (24) with 26 points and two rebounds. Haythorn has been a strong leader for the Reds this winter season as he has accumulated a total of 141 points in his varsity career. Coming second with 18 points was Walker Martin (23). Martin was also huge underneath the hoop with eight rebounds, following with six assists. Martin said, “This was the game back after Christmas break and it was nice to come back and get another win.” Leading into the weekend the Reds planned to train for their matchup with the Kent Denver Sun Devils at home. The nail-biting matchup ended with a heartbreaking loss for the Reds Saturday evening. Losing by a total of three points, the boys plan to reset as they start conference play this week. Zac Grable (23) led the team with 25 points. The entire game each team was neck and neck trying to grab the lead. Unfortunately, the boys fell short as Kent Denver made three free throws with seconds left in the game. Jaden Stone (22) said, “We can’t let the past determine our future, especially with conference play starting this week. Games start to have a bigger impact so we just have to keep grinding each day and learning from our mistakes.”

Next, up for the Reds, the boys will face the Valley Vikings at home on Tuesday, Jan. 11, then on Friday, Jan. 14 the Reds will travel to Resurrection Christian to play the Cougars. To stay updated on the upcoming games, tune into Eaton Red Ink for weekly updates and NFHS to watch the game live.
