Last weekend, some of Eaton’s wrestlers traveled to Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah to participate in the Rockwell Rumble.

The Rockwell Rumble lasted two days with up to 750 wrestlers allowed to compete.  The Rumble attracts wrestlers from all over the western states and gives wrestlers the opportunity to compete with a larger variety of competition.  Spectators were not permitted into the tournament, so it was broadcasted on FloWrestling.

Senior Tanner True (21) went to the tournament and took home first place in his weight division.  “I enjoyed competing and going on a trip with my friends; I just let the wins and losses take care of themselves,” True said.

True, Cael Jordan (21), Ryan Dirsekn (22), Morgan Tribbett (23), and Patrick Preston (24) represented Eaton at the tournament.

Preston said, “I thought it would be a really good opportunity to get used to high school wrestling.  There was a lot of good competition that I had never seen before.”  Preston wrestled in the 120 weight division.

True wrestled in the 285-pound bracket against 31 other wrestlers to earn first place in his division.  Jordan got fifth in the 170-pound weight division and Dirksen got sixth in the 152-pound weight division, which had 62 wrestlers in the bracket.

To win his final match, True wrestled the number one heavyweight in Colorado and was not able to pin the opponent, but was able to win by points.  “I chose to go this year because we haven’t had a chance to compete yet, and I was ready to compete.  I learned that my preparation and confidence can be a huge factor in the outcome,” True said.
