Eaton picks up win against rival University

Cody Kessel squares up for a shot in the paint during Tuesday’s University game.

Eaton Red’s boosted their record to 7-5 after a 65 – 57 win against University on Tuesday, Jan. 15. Throughout the game coaches and players from both teams challenged numerous fouls calls by the refs. The game was stopped by referees multiple times in order to clarify calls. The Eaton boys team prevailed, however, leading the game 36 – 27 at halftime.

Continuing after half time senior Cody Kessel stood out during the game scoring 13 points and putting up 10 rebounds, more than any other member of the basketball team. Kessel said it is his job as a team leader to keep the game going. “As a senior it is my job to step up when we need it. The refs aren’t always going to make the right call but we just gotta stride through that and play the best we can” Kessel said.

Head coach Dean Grable credited the boys team with winning the game despite the frustration. “We try not to worry about them and just play the game, overcome, and worry about the controllables. In the end we took care of what we needed to do,” Grable said. Eaton’s next game will be Jan. 22 at home against the Valley Vikings.
