Lady Reds season comes to an end against the University Bulldogs. The team made it to the Elite 8 followed by Holy Family, Delta, Berthoud, Luthern, D’Evelyn, Riverdale Ridge, and University. This game was played on Friday, Mar. 3 at the Denver Coliseum with a final score of 54-43. The Reds finished off their season with an overall record of 19-7.

University won the tip-off, and in the first half, the Reds were sticking close behind the Bulldogs and ended the first quarter 10-15. During the second quarter, the Reds had two fouls and fell behind with a score of 14-29. To start the second half of the game the Bulldogs had a lead of 41-19. Coming into the final quarter of the game the Reds took the lead 24-13 making five 3-point shots, one 2-pointer, and seven free throws. The Bulldogs then fought back and ended the game with a win making the final score 54-43.

Leyah Scott (23) took the leading score for the Reds and had 12 points in 3-point shots. Scott said, “I’m really sad but happy that I was able to play one last season with the girls I’ve been playing with since I was little.” Following behind Scott, Emily Maske (23) had 9 points and led the team with total rebounds of 10. Tayla Weideman (24) had a great season and helped carry the team in points, and rebounds. Wiedeman said, “The season started off strong and we built strong connections throughout the season that helped us push through the end. It didn’t end how we wanted and it can be attested to many different things. It’s sad that it’s over and now we have to focus on next year.”  

Although the Reds season is over, they held a great team with many different players that put in the work to get to the Elite 8, followed by a new head coach, Chris Love, and assistant coach Amy Ross.
