Girls basketball starts season off strong

Eaton basketball hosted their opening tournament this weekend with three other teams: Skyview, The Academy, and Fort Morgan. The Reds kicked off the start of the season with three dominant wins. 

Eaton girls’ basketball won their first game against Fort Morgan with a final score of 84-8. Junior Tayla Wiedeman led the Reds to a win with a total of 23 points. Wiedeman also led with the most rebounds with a total of 13. 

The Reds’ second game was played against Skyview with a final score of 45-30. Senior Emily Maske (23) scored 12 points for the Reds, along with nine rebounds. Leyah Scott (23) followed behind with a total of seven rebounds. The Reds are on a three-game winning streak and are dedicated to this 2022-23 season. “It’s a good feeling to have in the beginning of the season because it boosts confidence and excitement,” says Maske.

The Academy was the Reds’ third game of the tournament and won with a final score of 46-22. Wiedeman led the team with 18 points and 11 rebounds. 

After their wins over the weekend, the team knows what they have to do in order to be successful for their season. “We are going to keep working hard in practice, and having a positive mindset going into each game,” says Madison Flynn (23).
