How To Train Your Dragon 3 will thaw even the most frozen of hearts

How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World was released in theaters on Feb 22 and has already made $58 million dollars, soaring far above the success of the previous two movies in its series. This film was preceded by How To Train Your Dragon (released in 2010) and How To Train Your Dragon 2 (released in 2014). Both of which have become favorite movies for children all around the globe; which explains why the film was so excitedly awaited.

Set on a small viking island that is swarming with people and dragons alike, Chief Hiccup (voiced by Jay Baruchel) and his Night Fury dragon, Toothless, watch over their communities and strive for a world where dragons and humans can coexist in peace. Through many trials and tribulations, both of the characters are found falling in love with their respective counterparts. Hiccup’s love interest is young viking warrior, Astrid (voiced by America Ferrera)who is determined to help Hiccup realize he can be a wonderful ruler without relying on dragons.

A new villain, Grimmel the Grisly (voiced by F. Murray Abraham), enters the story and throws a wrench in the lives of the vikings. He is perhaps the most manipulative and sharp-witted dragon hunter encountered in the franchise thus far. Grisly is an infamous Night Fury hunter who enjoys the game almost as much as he loves the kill. He twists the perception of the main characters, making them question their leadership skills and reliability.

The animators of this movie truly outdid themselves with the details and layers that were implemented into this film. Each character’s look has an incredibly acute attention to detail and consistency from frame to frame. From the intricate and unique hair of every single person, to the tiny, complex scales of every dragon, the detailing of the movie can’t possibly be overlooked.

All in all, this movie will make every person in the theatre laugh with happiness, gasp with shock, tear up with sadness, and beam with joy. Through the twists and turns, through the ups and downs, How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World will captivate the attention of watchers old and young and teach themes of love, trust, and letting go.
