Eaton’s favorite unofficial holiday is here, and the energy is high into the weeks leading to Homecoming. The community waits with anticipation as details about upcoming events related to Eaton High School are announced.
The student council has been working diligently to make the week’s events run smoothly and enjoyable for all ages. Here’s what they have previewed to the public for upcoming dates: Spirit week, the dance theme, powder puff and power stuff, the homecoming parade, and the homecoming assembly.
In the high school, staff and students will attend the homecoming assembly, which essentially is a pep rally. Going for an hour and a half, participants will experience well-planned games for grades to compete, recognition of fall sports, competition of the spirit stick, and preparation for the parade taking place after. The student council was said to have collaborated many times with one another to make sure that the day runs smoothly without a hitch.
Jayde Perry (27), a member of the student council assembly committee, said, “I think the attitude of everybody and everyone being able to come together and just have a good time is why homecoming is so much fun; it definitely makes school easier and enjoyable too.” Regarding the week of events that they have planned for staff and students.
The spirit week is notoriously one of the biggest events in homecoming culture, and the student council has just released theirs. Mon. Sept. 29 will be pajama day; students may wear their pajamas or other sleepwear items. Tues. Sept. 30 will be “White Lies” day; students may wear white lies as long as there are no double meanings, and is in accordance with the dress code.
“We tried coming up with new themes that we have seen on social media and that we haven’t done yet, or you know, ideas that we can kind of branch off of and have fun with,” Perry said in regards to the possible new themes that stuco had created. They want to bring a unique influence to the culture of Eaton, and the way they do that is taking in new ideas.
Wed. Oct. 1 will be decades day; seniors will dress as the 80’s, Juniors the 2000’s, Sophomores the 70’s, and Freshmen as the 60’s. ICAP teachers will dress with the grade level they teach and take part to try and win a prize. Thurs. Oct. 2 is Jersey day; designed to show support and wear students’ and staffs’ favorite jerseys. Friday Oct. 3 is Reds day, and the community will wear their colors to show Eaton pride.
On Wed., Oct. 1, Juniors and Seniors will get the opportunity to participate in the annual Powder Puff and Power Stuff games. The boys’ Power Stuff game kicks off around 5:30 p.m. in the main gym. Their grade levels will get the chance to play against one another in a competitive manner, while being coached by volleyball players in their grade. After the game is over, fans can head to the football field around 6:30 p.m. for the Powder Puff game. Senior girls will compete against Junior girls in a football game.
The student council was able to get food trucks for the notorious bonfire that sets the homecoming energy into motion. So far, the appearances of Smokin’ Bros BBQ and Mauka Ice will be the only ones, but hopes of more are anticipated. During the bonfire, community members will burn the mascot of their respective rival in the homecoming football game.
Ending the week of festivities, the dance will start at 8 p.m. on the night of Oct. 4 and go until 11 p.m. The theme that was chosen was ‘Kings and Queens’ for the dance. Members will hopefully spend the night in semi-formal attire dancing and enjoying the time with their friends. Perry said, “I just hope that they realize how fun the environment is and how fun it is to be able to experience this as a high schooler, and hopefully they never forget memories like these.”
