A match-up between Eaton (4-9, 2-2) and University Bulldogs (9-4, 3-2) Friday, January 24, for a division league rivalry game resulted in a 1-point victory for the Reds, in the last second of the game by Freshman, Jaxon Hobbs. The game resulted in a final score of a 44-43 Eaton Victory. The Reds got out to a quick head start outscoring the Bulldogs 12-5 in the first quarter, giving Eaton a leg up on University. The Bulldogs then answered back, outscoring the Reds in the second quarter 18-13, to lead into halftime with a two point deficit. Right out of halftime, Eaton regained its once large lead to jump up to 40-33 leading into the final quarter of the game. It seemed that Eaton lost a bit of its feel when the Bulldogs outscored the Reds 6-0, until Casey Edens (15) hit two free-throws with 3:53 left on the clock. With barely over 10 seconds left, and the game tied up, Eaton fouled University player, Isaiah Dilka (15), sending him to the line to make one of his two shots, and putting University up by 1. The Reds final possession was in progress when Jake Nelson (14) drove for a mid-range jump shot that bounced out, and was put back in right before the buzzer by Jaxon Hobbs (17) to win the game. When he was put put up his final shot, Hobbs (17) said he knew that “if I miss it, it’d be okay because we worked our hardest, the only lost game is when you don’t try your hardest.”
Eaton will be on the road for their next game, January 28, against the Brush Beetdiggers (8-4, 3-0).
