Eaton loses to Sterling by 22 points
The Sterling Tigers (18-0) remain undefeated after its win over Eaton (13-4) with a final score of 49-27 on Thursday 9. Eaton was unable to convert on the offensive end for the entire game, even though it was able to hold Sterling under 10 points in two out of the four quarters. Sterling outscored Eaton 14-8 in the first quarter. In the second and third quarters, Eaton was outscored 8-2 despite the aggressive defense on Sterling’s powerhouse offense. Eaton was able to score 15 points in the fourth quarter, a game high for the Reds, but Sterling scored 19 leaving the final score 49-27.
Top scorers for the Reds were Brynn Millett (17) with 8 points, including two three pointers, and Sydney Booth (19) with 6 points, according to Maxpreps. Statistically, the Reds shot only 29 percent from the field and 27 percent from beyond the arc. Eaton’s 24 turnovers were another contributing factor that aided Sterling’s offense and helped it to outscore the Reds. Eaton’s players on the whole were not in foul trouble, as the team racked up only 12 fouls for the whole game, according to Maxpreps. One the whole, Eaton was simply unable to attack the basket and score from the field on offense.
The Reds have only two more games in the regular season before the state tournament. According to Maxpreps, Eaton is still ranked 64 in the state and 11 in 3A. As it stands, Eaton will likely be the third seed for the upcoming tournament with Liberty Common at the second seed and Sterling at the first, according to CHSAA. Up next, Eaton will play the University Bulldogs (10-8) on Tuesday 14.
