Eaton’s girl basketball team, loses by 24 points against Eagles
The Reds were beaten by the Liberty Common Eagles on the road 58-34 on Friday 27. The now 12-0 Eagles are ranked 14 in the state of Colorado and 3 in Class 3A rankings, according to Maxpreps. Eaton moved down in rankings and is now ranked 11 in class 3A rankings and 64 in the state.
The Reds struggled on offense for most of the game with the exception of most of the first quarter. With a few minutes left in the first, the Reds were up 7 to 3 until the Eagles made a run and put themselves up 14-7. At the end of the second quarter, the Reds had scored 10 points compared to the Eagles’ 15. Coming out of halftime, Eaton played its worst quarter offensively, scoring only 4 points while Liberty Common scored 12. Unable to catch up, the Reds scored 13 points to the Eagles’ 17 and lost the game with a final score of 34-58.
Top scorer for the Reds was Alexis Lamereoux (18) with 7 points, followed by players Brynn Millett (17), Bailie Duncan (19), and Addie Randel (20) who scored 5 points each. For Liberty Common, Halley Miklos (17), who averages 23 points per game according to Maxpreps, was the top scorer with 18 points. Behind Miklos with 14 points were Chloe Kohl (18) and Hannah Kohl (17). Top rebounders for the Reds were Jayde Contreras (17) and Sydney Booth (19), each pulling down four. Miklos pulled down five boards, a team high. Eaton had 19 personal fouls, while Liberty Common had 21.
Up next, Eaton (11-3 overall) will face the Resurrection Christian Cougars (11-3 overall) in a conference game on Tuesday 31. Liberty Common will go on to face the only other undefeated team in 3A, the Sterling Tigers, on Tuesday 31 in what could be a precursor to the 3A state tournament.
