Jones’s advising class collects loose change to loosen chains
By Jayce Parrish
Deidre Jones and her advising class have been raising awareness for issues like sexual trafficking, slavery, police brutality, and property grabbing by collecting loose change to loosen chains. The International Justice Mission gathers the donations and puts it towards preventing inhumane conditions. People around the world withstand conditions that are not common in Eaton. The IJM stresses the importance of making issues like these from “nameless to known.” According to the IJM website, their mission is to rescue thousands, protect millions, and prove that justice for the poor is possible. Whitley Irvin (18), one ofJones’s advisees said, “By doing this we are letting people know that slavery is still going on and it is not just an issue of the past.”
Another one of Jones’s advisees, Tanner Mccoy (18), said, “We have raised about 200 dollars.” Some of Jones’s advisees will be going into each advising class asking for donations on Tuesdays, or you can donate here.
