Eaton volleyball girls beaten 1-3 against Lewis Palmer
By April Van Wyhe
In an even matched set up the Eaton Fighting Reds fell short against the Lewis Palmer Rangers, scoring 1-3 sets. During the first set the girls matched up evenly until the Reds first time out at 17-19 in hopes of turning the game around. Only four points later at 18-22 head coach Gwen Forster attempted again to change the pace of the game, but sadly it seemed to have the opposite effect, with the Reds score stagnate and the Rangers won the first set three points later. With morale down, the Reds as Forster said, “began struggling” but thanks to the environment created by the team none of the girls got frustrated, Forster said that “we don’t believe in frustration.” The second set ended with a 15-25 with only the Reds using their timeouts, with the Rangers opting not to use them like in the JV and C team games before.
With new purpose the Reds fought, well earning their name the Fighting Reds, and in a vicious battle between teams, neither letting the other pull ahead, the Reds girls won 26-24. In this third set with the girls both physically and mentally exhausted the Reds forced the Ranges to even use both of their time outs. While back on the winning path with morale higher, also thanks to some chants from the crowd the reds as said by Taylor Bulzomi (17) who just stared in Eaton a week ago,”is awesome support”, when compared to her old school. The Reds started off strong, but never pulled ahead from the Rangers, almost constantly keeping a two point lead. Never giving up however, the Fighting Reds continued to chase the tail of their competitors, not once allowing them any slack. Sadly, in the fourth set, Eaton lost with 22-25, but as Tarynn Sieg (17) said, “with the taste of lost in our mouths the will strive harder to win the next game.”
