Incentive Day will be postponed until next semester. Usually, Incentive Day is given on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving Break. Instead, the Monday and Tuesday next week (Nov. 23 and 24) will be a full Red day and a full White day. Whether students earn Incentive Day or not depends on how they did on the standardized tests the previous spring. For seniors, their qualification for Incentive Day is determined on their ACT score. Freshmen never get incentive day because testing is in the spring of their freshmen year, qualifying them for Incentive Day their sophomore year. Last spring, the students took the PARCC test for the first time. Only the general data from PARCC is currently available, not the individualized data yet; therefore, Incentive Day cannot be given without the test results. The individualized results will be out Dec. 4. Although the seniors do have their ACT scores back, they will have Incentive Day with the rest of school next semester. Principal Mark Naill said, “The seniors did great on the ACT. I think 48% of the kids got a 22 or above. I’m not going to do a split Incentive Day, because sometimes we have a few kids who take advantage of any day off, whether they earned it or not. It’s a reward for the kids who performed well. We want to make sure they get it.”
