Solos and groups as a whole brought music to a whole new level on October 20 in the auditorium. Women’s Choir started the night with Antiphonal Kyrie followed by Over The Rainbow and than Shenendoah. Michaela Ironcloud and Natalie Purcell had solos during Over the Rainbow. Kelly Ferrari accompanied the girls on the flute during Shenendoah. After that Men’s Choir brought to the stage Gone, Gone, Gone, Battle Above the Clouds and finished off with Cantar. During Gone, Gone, Gone Jordan Young and Braeson had the courage to sing their solo. Sarah Elens accompanied them during Battle Above the Clouds. When Bella Voce took the stage they brought music to people’s ears while they sang Oh Happy Day, Sing to The World and Alleluia. Mikeldi Lewis (18) had a solo during Oh Happy Day and Ami Dyer (16) sang by herself during Sing to the World. Alleluia, Alleluia, Change the World and Lord I Know I’ve Been Changed is what the Troubadours performed. Soloists during Alleluia, Alleluia were Jacob Dowdy (16), Alhan Rodriguez (18), Lexi Lapp (16) and Colton Ingram (16). Dominic Pierot (16) and Andrew Nelson (16) soloed during Change the World. Madelaine Lamb (16) said, “Last night was by far the best choir concert I’ve been to. Everyone tried really hard and was so excited and positive about it, and everyone did really awesome.”
For the dance pieces of the night Women’s Choir sang a medley from “Grease”. The speaker for “Grease” was Charlee Fedler (17). Men’s Choir honored Queen with a tribute to them. This Will Be came to life with Bella Voce. With Emma Weaver (17) on the guitar and band teacher, Logan Doddridge on the drums, the Troubadours finished out with Livin’ On The Prayer. Luke Pickett (18) was the narrator and Emily Harper (16) and Joslyn Chapman (16) were soloists.
Christina Contreras ,choir teacher, said, “It was great for our first concert of this year. I was overall very proud of all the choirs.” To finish off the night, all four of the choirs came together to sing Trouble. The descant included Lindsey Leafgren (18), Rachel Leclair (18), Payton Richter (17), Breece Gesick (16), Melanie Fye (19), Janae Jarnagin (19), Leah Garcia (16), Koreena Burger (16), Cody Jordan (18), Mason Koehn (18), Lucas Halferty (16) and Luke Pickett (18).
No performance could go without a problem or two. Contreras said, “Like every concert, the biggest frustration is our sound system. Hixon does everything she can and I always appreciate her efforts, but we have a very frustrating, faulty system that doesn’t work correctly. We weren’t able to hear everyone as well as I hoped, but at least they worked sometimes. Lamb said. “Being in two choirs, I personally wish I would have practiced a lot more because I was so nervous I wouldn’t have gotten things right, but if I had tried just a tiny bit harder, I could’ve avoided all the nerves.”
