At EHS, one of the most important outcomes is how students’ academic levels can increase, and how their everyday work affects them in the classroom. Teachers play a very important role in the classroom, and they help students further their education and mentor them throughout life.
Recently at EHS, there was a mid-semester teacher change in the language arts department. The previous teacher, Mrs. Parker left the school very early into the year. Eaton School District began searching for a new teacher that was skilled and could step in to do the job swiftly.
Although it may have been a hard change, the transition for many students with a new instructor in the class is going well. Ms. Beaty was hired and began a couple weeks ago at EHS. “Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked in the healthcare field in various positions for most of my twenties. I realized that my favorite part of the job was creating training materials and working with new hires. I’ve always loved reading and writing, so English was a natural fit for me. It is my belief that ELA is one of the most important subjects because a student who can read and write well becomes an adult who can advocate for themselves and others,” said Ms. Beaty. Beaty is getting to know the school, the students, and learning what it means to be an Eaton Red.
Beaty didn’t originally start out in Eaton, but was influenced from word of mouth how great the Eaton School District is. Beaty said, “I am originally from Fort Worth, Texas. My dad is from Brighton, and I moved here in 2017 after he moved back a few years prior. One of my professors at the University of Northern Colorado used to be a middle school teacher in Eaton. He always spoke about how amazing the kids and community were. I wanted a chance to really get to know my students and be involved in the community I teach in. The job opening here felt like fate when I saw it posted.”
Starting out here as a teacher, she is also freshman advisor for the class of 2028, and will spend the next four years getting to know them. Beaty said, “I am really excited to continue to get to know my students, especially my freshmen advisees. I will be offering a Dungeons and Dragons enrichment next quarter and am really excited to get that off the ground. The game is an excellent way to cultivate creativity, empathy, and joy within a community. I graduated from
UNC with my English Education degree last May, but I had my own classroom at Mountain View High School in Loveland during my student teaching and I loved it. This is my first “official” year as a teacher,” said Beaty. EHS is proud to welcome Ms. Beaty and is excited to see what the future holds in place.
