Eaton High School track athlete David Jones was able to clinch the pole vault state championship with a winning jump of 13’07” at Jeffco Stadium on 15 May 2014. Jones is now the state champion for the 3A Men’s Pole vault in all the state of Colorado. His main opponent for the title was Michael Voss, a junior out of Bayfield who was able to capture 13’7” as well during the meet. However, Jones was able to achieve this height in fewer amount of jumps overall.
Jones came into the tournament with a seed height of 14’1”, the highest in all the state previous to the meet. After the title was given to Jones, he said that he felt he was playing a lot of head games with himself. Jones said that he puts a lot of pressure upon himself, which can end up in hurting him. Still he performed excellent.
All of Eaton High School is proud of Jones’ achievements, all of which he will be taking to Chadron State College in Nebraska on a track scholarship.
