The Eaton High School volleyball team has been on a long winning streak this season, showcasing their skill and determination on the court. With a blend of experienced seniors and promising underclassmen, the team has developed a strong chemistry that has led to their success. Their recent games have highlighted their strategic play and strong defense, earning them a series of victories.Their latest victory against Liberty Common on Oct. 15 showed that they lack no intensity against any of their opponents.
This season has held some new beginnings within the team. The new coaching staff for Eaton’s volleyball team has shown to be a game changer. Under the guidance of head coach, Matt Meagher, and his experienced assistant coaches, the team has developed a more strategic approach to their games. The coaches have focused on building strong fundamentals, fostering team spirit, and implementing innovative training techniques. The fresh perspective has not only improved the players’ skills but also boosted their confidence. Evie Gavette (25) said, “Matt is beyond supportive and believed in not only me, but the team as well, having faith in us and our abilities as players…[He] trusts us to lead and push each other to create a deeper connection on our own, rather than him trying to force control from his own perspective.” Gavette had a lot to say about Meagher. Her transition to having a new head coach was not as drastic because Meagher had coached her previously in club and middle school, so she and some other girls have seen his style of coaching before. This team’s impressive performance this season is a testament to the positive impact of the new coaching staff.
Seasons also come with a few hiccups along the way. No team can be ultimately perfect. On Oct. 17, Eaton played Platte Valley and came up short of a victory. Showing perseverance the girls worked until the 5th set to ultimately face a tough situation that ended in them losing to their rival. The game showed a great amount of tenacity. Avery Holte (25) said, “They are always tough competition to play against and the energy was intense with us being ranked #1 and #2.” After the long game the girls will shortly start preparing for what’s next. Soon enough the hard work will showcase in bigger games when Eaton likely faces Platte Valley again during the postseason.
Always moving forward, the girls are excited to head to state again. The girls have preached growth, resilience, integrity, and tenacity(G.R.I.T.), along with trust, non-complacent, humility, and discipline all year as their team driving words. Callie Moos (25) said, “Using these words we are continuing to prepare ourselves for state. The team is more ready than ever.” Preparation will not be easy and the focus must be doubled in the games, but if anyone can do it it’s the Eaton Reds volleyball team. The future is in their hands. With the state championship on the horizon, Eaton Voleyball’s journey is far from over. The team remains focused and determined, ready to face their toughest opponents yet. Stay tuned for what promises to be an exciting conclusion to a remarkable season!
