At Eaton High School, the vibrant talent of artists is captivating the community. In the busy halls of EHS, many students have found their love of art. Art has various branches, including painting, drawing, sculpting, music, literature, and dance. It is a form of expression for many people, especially at Eaton High School.
Physical art, which people can see and touch, is one of the most common types of art where people can express their thoughts and emotions on paper. Sophie Morgan (25) said, “My art reflects what’s going on in my head during the day. It’s a way to kind of release whatever I have been thinking about without using words.” Morgan is one of the talented artists the high school has. She wants to become an art teacher after she attends college. Eaton High School’s art teacher, Payton Sporleder, has influenced Morgan greatly and has made her desire to become like her.
Emily Edwards (26) is also one of the great artists at Eaton High School. She is very inspired by art and loves drawing and painting. She creates a wide range of art, including varieties of sketches to sculptures. Edwards would like to continue her path of art after high school. She said, “Honestly there’s so much I want to do in the art industry, like drawing, painting, and fashion. Participating in artist exchange programs is probably how I’ll start my career in the industry.” So many of the art students have found their love for art in the atmosphere of Eaton High School, which has led them to want to pursue it down the road.
Artists in band also bring a unique blend of personalities and talent together. Hayden Annand (26) is a drum major who conducts for the Eaton Reds Marching Band. Annand keeps time for everyone during their performances and gives cues and dynamics at certain points. Annand plays a significant role in the marching band. Her inspiration for music comes from many different aspects. Annand said, “What really inspires me is my love for music, and I’m able to pick up instruments quickly. It’s also really fun to play with everyone on stage because the energy is so high and everyone is always having a good time on stage.” Annand’s love for band and music won’t just disappear as she continues through high school onto college. The great dynamic of Eaton’s band has led them to state championships and has allowed them to win many awards.
Singing is also one of the prominent branches of art. Elly Kennedy, a senior at Eaton High School, is part of the Troubadours and Bella Voce choirs. She plays a huge role in both choirs and has a very strong voice that has led her down the path of her singing journey. Kennedy said, “I absolutely plan on pursuing music after high school. Singing gives me such a purpose and I can’t imagine a time in my life where I would want to discontinue that or give up.”
Many students of EHS use theater classes and productions to be able to express themselves.Theatre is a collaborative form of performing art that uses live performances. The students who are a part of Eaton High School theater spend countless hours perfecting their performances. Many of the students who are part of the high school’s theater program plan on furthering their career in theater in college. Lanfear Vallejos (25) is part of the Eaton Theatre program. She said, “I will be going to CSU to do theater because I see how amazing of a job they do there.” Vallejos has been so inspired by all the amazing people she has performed with on the Eaton stage that it has led her to want to continue acting.
Eaton High School’s many art programs have led to many students wanting to continue their education further doing what they love most. No matter if that be painting, drawing, music, or acting, they all have found their passion for art.
