On Friday Apr, 18, Three loud booms were heard in the Iranian city Isfahan. This city contains an Iranian military base housing fighter jets, but everything near the base seemed to be unchanged after the attack, and the booms came from Iran’s air defenses shooting down a suspicious looking object.
Israel has not yet taken responsibility for the attack, but it is believed that they are the culprits. Because of the brutal conflict in Gaza, officials are saying that Israel is the attacker because Iran is an ally to the Palestinians.
Senior Ridge Kayser said, “The war between Palestine and Isreal is super complicated. It’s hard to choose a side because both have done things that are wrong in my eyes.”
The target of the strike was not believed to be anything related to nuclear weapons, but there are nuclear weapons stored nearby, as well as countless other pieces of dangerous and priceless pieces of equipment. Regardless, officials believe that the attack was purely designed to send a message or warn the Iranians.
Leaders believe that the Israeli military was telling the Iranians that their defenses could easily be overwhelmed by Israel’s advanced military technology. They were essentially making a display of their power.
United States officials say that Israel should keep their eyes open for retaliatory attacks from Iran. However, the US is also concerned with Israel’s behavior because they did not approve the attack beforehand, and officials are now taking steps to keep a full blown war in the Middle East.
Senior Jackson Tribbett said, “It’s scary to think that a full blown war could start. With all of the alliences, it could mean that the US will send soldiers to the Middle East.”
After this attack, Iran issued a warning to Israel and its allies that if Israel does something again, then Iran will react with great ferocity to snuff out the attack from Israel.
This only complicates things in the Middle East more. Because it is difficult to defend what Israel has done, it is also difficult to keep them from being attacked and starting a war.
