After being down by as much as 14 points, the Reds (3-9, 1-2) basketball team came out with a win last night against the Valley Vikings(4-7, 0-2). On January 21, during the boys basketball Hoops for Hope game the final score was 45-42, a nail biter whose winner would be decided in the last seconds of the game.
Last night, Jake Nelson (14) and Gavin Ledall (15) led the Eaton Reds in scoring with a combined 27-points. The boys were down by 14-points by the end of the first quarter sending all fans into dismal state, watching their Reds being beaten. The quiet fell through on the fans, while the southeast corner of the gym roared cheering for the Valley Vikings. The second quarter sparked a comeback for the Eaton Reds outscoring the Vikings 12-6, causing an 8-point deficit, and turning the score into 20-12. The Reds came out of halftime with a changed attitude ready to turn the game around. The Reds outscored the Vikings once again going into the fourth quarter with a score of 27-26, tossing the game up for grabs for either team. The game went back and forth changing the lead of score 10 times until the final seconds came and the Reds were able to convert, and locked up the game when Nelson (14) hit two free-throws when it mattered to end with a 45-42 win against division rival, Valley Vikings.
The Reds next game will be on the road against the University Bulldogs (7-4, 1-2). Last night also was Hoops for Hope for the Eaton Reds when they collected donations for the American Cancer Society.
