With yet another meager year of snowfall in Ski Country USA, shredders all around Colorado greet this season with disappointment. Season pass holders ceased to buy passes, local skiers and boarders have yet to have a good day on the mountain. Although this season looks like it might continue to spiral downwards, die-hard riders endure the ice and rocks to fulfill that feeling of freedom. Although snowfall may save this season, records show that the remainder of this season may replicate another poor snow outcome. This year is 46 percent of the average snowpack. As a result, the drought that ruined last season continues to plague snowfall and the aspirations of enthusiastic shredders. One of the most persistent ski areas with 456 inches of annual snowfall and the most in Colorado; Wolf Creek ski area, has been one of the few resorts in Colorado that has not disappointed. With 155 inches this year so far, Wolf creek blows away its other competitors providing several powder days that many natives crave. Another ski area called Powderhorn, located on the Grand Mesa had a slow start but now is also thriving with fresh powder. These two anomalies in regards to snow in this time of drought have drawn people far and wide to experience fresh snow. Despite the fact that this year’s Colorado skiing experience has failed to fulfill the normal snow standards Coloradans have learned to love, skiers and boarders persevere to find that occasional patch of powder or at the least live to ski the fresh corderay in the morning. People who love to ski one or two days during the season must persevere until snow comes so that they can have a fulfilling day in a subpar season. Stay patient and safe on the mountain. Thankfully the snow Gods have previewed that next season could be an above average year with hundreds of inches of snow and over 100 percent snowpack. And anyone who knows snow knows that above average snow in Colorado is the world class. Snow is inevitable, it is just a matter of when it will dump. This is Colorado, one of skiing’s greatest destinations, its time will come and when it does you know where the true Coloradans will be.
