Girls basketball takes tough loss against rivals

The Lady Reds take a loss against the Platte Valley Broncos

Eaton girls’ basketball faced their rivals recently against the Platte Valley Broncos. They took a tough loss with a final score of 28-44. Eaton led in total rebounds with 17 offensive rebounds and 24 defensive rebounds for a total of 41 rebounds. The team strives for rebounds for second opportunities to score. Senior Madison Flynn said, “Defense is very important. It is what sets us up to win games. As a team, we strive to dominate on defense because that is how every offense starts.”

Free throws are another huge aspect of the game for the Reds and are just as important as defense. Emily Maske (23) said, “They are very important and are “free” throws for a reason and we should be taking advantage of that opportunity.” The Reds had made five free throws in the game by Flynn, Leyah Scott (23), Tayla Wiedeman (24), and Blayke Duncan (23) made two. Scott leads the team in scoring with 13 total 3-point makes and scoring 43 points for the Reds.

Scott says, “We will move forward by playing together and learning from our mistakes. Moving forward and focusing on conference games will make us better and grow from it.” After the tough loss, the Lady Reds now stand with a record of 6-2 making them sixth in the 4A division. They face their next opponent away on Tuesday, Jan. 10 against Berthoud.
