One of the most famous couples in the world, Kanye and Kim Kardashian West, are breaking up. Kim has decided to file for a divorce and has hired renowned divorce lawyer Laura Wasser. Wasser has worked with many celebrities including Britney Spears, Johnny Depp, and Angelina Jolie. Kim and Kanye got married in May of 2014, and have four children. The two celebrity giants garnered attention from every corner, and have been through many rough patches during their marriage. 

The divorce isn’t official yet, but the signs are clear. Kanye tweeted in July, “I’ve been trying to get divorced since Kim met with Meek at the Waldorf for ‘prison reform,’” referring to a criminal justice summit that both Kim and rapper Meek Mill took part in. Kanye has been tweeting numerous bold messages, and many of them target his wife Kim.

The end to the six-year marriage has been stirring for a while now, but, according to Vanity Fair, Kanye’s controversial presidential campaign was the final straw for Kim. During one of Kanye’s rallies, he spilled the secret that he and Kim almost aborted their daughter North. This upset Kim. Another source from Page Six says, “Kim needed to end the marriage for the sake of her kids and her own sanity.” As of December 2020, Kim and Kanye have been separated from each other with Kanye living in his Wyoming mansion for the holiday season.

Alex Williams (24) is not surprised by the split. “I feel that it is for the best because as we all know Kim did not vote for Kanye in the 2020 election. She voted for president-elect Joe Biden,” Williams said. Many people, including Kim, took Kanye’s presidential campaign as a joke, but he was being absolutely serious. Kanye’s run wasn’t a complete failure, however, as he got 60,000 votes. 

Other students don’t really care about Kanye and Kim’s divorce. Gabriel Estrada (23) says, “I’m unaffected by this news, it doesn’t really impact me. I’m cool with it.”

Depending on whether or not they signed a prenuptial agreement, splitting up the couples’ money and items will likely be a mess, so drama among the stars of Hollywood is expected. The divorce of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian marks the end of an era, and their future love life is totally unpredictable.
