Golf tee’s off for a great season
The Eaton Reds varsity golf team lost two big seniors coming into this years season, and had to overcome the challenge. After losing Peter Grosenbacher who led the team last year, it meant Walker Scott (20) and Bryce Leafgren (20) had to step up as seniors. Last year Eaton won 3A Region 3 with a score of 8-over.
The Reds also had the individual champion as Grossenbacher shot 2-under, and are hopefully going to do the same this year. Scott (20) said, “I think as a team that we need to step up and keep growing to fulfill last years seniors.”
Eaton golf coach, Gino Maio stated, “This is one of the better teams the Eaton golf program has seen. Especially with the top 4, Cole Lockey (23), Scott (20) and Leafgren (20),and Dillyn Schmidke (21).” Scott came off a win earlier this year at Evergreen golf course and shot a 69.
He stated that “I won today’s tournament because even though I had a bad start, with two double bogeys on holes 1 and 2, I managed to keep my head in it and push through it to get the win.” In two weeks the Eaton Reds varsity will take on state golf at Eisenhower Blue,at Air Force Academy. If they play how they have been playing all season then they should see a pretty solid outcome at state.
