How has drawing helped you cope with things in your life?

Aria goes into detail about her journey. She says, “Drawing puts my negative feelings on paper, so I don’t necessarily have to feel them in person. I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. As soon as I could pick up a pen I haven’t stopped drawing and I never want to stop. Although I was self taught, it took a lot of practice because I never traced, or watched tutorials. Drawing for me was just a lot of trial and error.”

What is a funny story you have about drawing?

“A funny story of mine is, one time in middle school a boy stole my drawing notebook then claimed it as his own. Later in class, he started showing me my own drawings saying he drew them, so I angirly took the notebook and said it was mine. We bickered back and forth for a little bit about whose it was, until I started explaining other drawings. I told the principle and the boy apologized and said he would get me a new notebook because he ripped out pages and drew over some of my drawings.”

Want to draw like Aria? Here are a few tips.

First, you’ll need some supplies. A pencil, sharpener, eraser, pen and paper. Now, start with your pencil and do a rough outline lightly of what you want. Start going back, still in pencil, and try to make the shapes accurate to what you imagined.

Once you have the general idea and shape of your drawing, take your pen and go over the lines. Erase the pencil lines when you’re done and color. Then, there you have your drawing. If it isn’t how you imagined, it might just take a little more practice.
