Girls basketball honors seniors before win against Liberty Common
Reds girls basketball won 48 – 26 against the Liberty Commons Eagles at Eaton’s home game on February 12. The Reds maintained a lead over Liberty Commons throughout the game, with a halftime score of 17 -12. Sophomore Nakaiyah Kuskie made multiple three point shots during the game, scoring a fifth of the teams points. Kuskie credits the success of the game to her teammates “When you shoot a three pointer it’s all about having people open up the court for you, and the team does an amazing job of that,” Kuskie said.
Before starting the game Eaton basketball honored their four senior teammates; Gracie Schreiber, Bailie Duncan, Sydney Booth, and Michaela Hill. The four seniors stood on the court while Steve Longwell read a bit about them. After these were read aloud the seniors parents brought them flowers and gifts representing the parent’s role in their child’s success as an athlete. Coach Todd Hernandez said he believes these seniors are special compared to past groups. Hernandez credited the seniors work ethic and spirit in games, saying, “As far as winning tough games, I think the girls just believe they will find a way”. Duncan commented on her senior teammates, saying, “I wouldn’t be able to play without the girls on the team. They push me to play my best, and when I’m not they’ve got my back.” The Reds are preparing to play against Estes Park Bobcats on February 19 during the first round of districts.
