Senior Lady Reds finish strong on senior night
Seniors of the 2019 class Michaela Hill (19), Makenzie Harris(19), Quinci Johnson(19) led the Eaton Reds Volleyball team to another win on October 23 against the Sterling Tigers. With one off the smallest senior classes to ever come through the volleyball program, the seniors continue to dominate throughout 3A with their only loss to Eaton’s rival Platte Valley. The Lady Reds will host Regionals as number ten seed in the state. They will take on both Eagle Ridge Academy and Colorado Academy on the November 2 to make the state tournament.
The Reds lost to Platte Valley October 16 making it their first loss to a 3A team in four years. Ironically the Reds’ last loss in 2012 was also against Platte Valley for a tiebreaker in the playoffs . If both teams make the semi-finals, they will be facing off in one of the biggest rivalries in Patriot League history.
A week later, Eaton bounced back against Sterling with a 3-1 win, and Johnson(19) said she felt it was a much needed win to move past the loss against the Broncos. “We knew the loss against Platte Valley did not define us, and we have been working hard to be better for the rest of the season. Against Sterling we came together and played as one. It felt good to bounce back from a tough loss.”
Along with a great performance from the seniors, Abbey Hays(21) had the highest kill percentage of 42.3 and the highest hit percentage of .269. Sydney Leffler(21) said, “As we’re always told by our coaches, we need to do something special and that’s what we’re gonna do.”
