Tomorrow on May 23, a new tradition will be started at the high school. Jay Tapia, the new principal of EHS, will be grilling hamburgers for the entire school on the last day of school. Tapia has been involved in almost every school activity that Eaton provides this year. He has been present at almost every home and local sporting event and concert that the sudents are involved in. Many people can attest to his kindness and support to everyone in the school. Janae Jarnagin (19) said, “It’s just really cool to have a principal who supports all programs. It doesn’t matter whether it’s an athletic or an art, he’s there and he’s making sure that every student feels like they matter. The grilling thing is super cool because he’s trying to start this tradition that unites all of us before summer. He doesn’t want us to feel isolated and truly wants us to be a family.” After an amazing year with Tapia as a principal, Eaton has grown together in every goal he has set up for the students. Anya Womack said, “Tapia has done so much for this school and the fact that he’s getting so involved with the students is amazing. You can really tell he has a passion for what he does for this school, the students, and staff.”

Other students at EHS have provided their insight of the high school and Tapia after this year with him.
Andrea Pennington (19) said, “I think it’s an awesome idea. He’s so involved in wanting us to enjoy our school and I think he’s so selfless to have that done for the entire school! I’m really happy with the changes he’s made.”

Katelyn LeClair (20) said, “He’s super invested in the school, which is hard to be because of how many activities we have, but he still supports them all. I really like that he is open to new ideas and encourages students to pursue ideas that they have for the school. The barbecue is a great idea and a wonderful way to end the school year.”

Matea Floryance (20) said, “I love Mr. Tapia. He’s so caring not only for the students but the staff as well. I think it is such a blessing to have him as our principal because he cares so much about each and every one of us. I think it is so cool that he is grilling for the entire school tomorrow because that is very rare to see come from a school principal.”

Tomorrow’s schedule consists of 20 minute class periods and a lunch on the front lawn from noon to 1:30 after an assembly to end the year off at 11:30.
