Eaton High School utilizes College in Colorado for students’ benefit

Like it or not, planning your high school career on College in Colorado has a purpose. Every year, students spend about a week in advising updating their plans of study and retaking the career cluster survey. Results from head of data collection, Chris Love, are in. You may not enjoy taking the survey every year, but according to this year’s results, if you see a classmate of yours in the future, they just might be pulling your teeth or giving you a check up. You’re less likely to see an old high school friend running for Congress or building houses. EHS students are particularly interested in the fields of Health Science, Hospitality and Tourism, and Human Services.
According to EHS counselor Marcy Sanger, students have been planning high school and college careers for about 10 years on College in Colorado, even before it became a law to do so. Sanger said, “Before College in Colorado, I would do things with career interest surveys. We didn’t do it for everyone, usually just seniors, so our guidance wasn’t nearly as effective as it is now. It also wasn’t an all-school effort.”
Although taking the career cluster survey every year might seem annoying, it is really for the benefit of students who are not quite sure of their future aspirations. “We recognize that interests of kids can change, so that’s why we have students do it every year,” Sanger said. “The career interest survey you take on College in Colorado actually takes what you are interested in and matches it with a career cluster.” For those who have no idea what career to pursue, the survey is particularly informational.
