Graduation requirements change for coming classes
By Jayce Parrish
Change is inevitable for the class of 2018 because the junior class is no longer taking the ACT but will be taking the SAT. At Eaton High School, students are used to taking the ACT so this may be a hard transition for those that have already prepared for, or taken the ACT. Last year’s sophomores took the PSAT in order to take the SAT this year. Three categories of Critical reading, mathematics, and writing skills are totaled together for an overall score out of 1600
These are some suggestions for how to study for the PSAT and SAT:
Khan academy has free SAT and PSAT practice with step-by-step help on missed problems. Students can also use an SAT app for daily practice. It offers one question a day with hints in order to prepare people for the test. Juniors that took the PSAT last year who received a slip with their scores on it can use a code at the bottom of the sheet in order to get free SAT practice online.
Graduation requirements will change for the class of 2021 within the IKF policy. As many people think the new changes to the graduation requirements are affecting the credit requirements, they are not. The new changes are actually making it necessary for the newly arriving classes to take assessments for English and math to prove their understanding before graduating. Once one of the options is achieved for both math and English are achieved then the student has met the new graduation requirement. The requirement is in order to have students try harder at exams like the SAT and ACT since it will be required for their graduation. Although this is a minor change to Eaton High School’s curriculum it is meant to make students accel more in the math and English categories.
Below is a chart of options for those students to prove their knowledge in math and English:
