Eaton students pray at the flag pole during the annual gathering
Students gathered around the Eaton High School flagpole for the worldwide event See You at the Pole on Wednesday Sept. 28 at 7:00 a.m. It was a time of worship and prayer hosted by Sydney Booth (19), Jayde Contreras (17) and Jason Newby, the youth pastor at the Evangelical Free Church of Eaton. Christina Contreras, Jackson Contreras (19), and Jayde Contreras led worship as a family, singing three well-known songs: “Blessed Be Your Name”, “I Will Worship”, and “Holy Spirit.” The event also turned up several adults in the community who are involved in the church and wanted to support the students.
The center focus of See You at the Pole is prayer, and that was something students who got up for the event did plenty of. The six main topics the students prayed about were the students all over the world, the nation and government, the administration and teachers of Eaton High School, specific prayers for families and friends, and the students who specifically came for See You at the Pole. Another common prayer was for students around the high school to be bold in their faith, not being afraid to “shine their light”. The students broke up into small groups to pray and discuss each topic, and were encouraged to mix up groups as the topics of prayer transitioned.
Students left the event with donuts in hand and smiling faces. The time of prayer and worship will return next year to Eaton High School bright and early in the morning.
