Eaton softball girls fall against Strasburg 3-2

Donning pink to bring awareness to breast cancer, the Reds softball team lost to the Strasburg Indians 3-2 Sept. 15. After a scoreless first inning for both teams, Strasburg was able to put 2 points up on the board in the top of the second with two runs batted in. The Reds did not score in the bottom of the second, allowing Strasburg to come back to the plate and hit one more run in. In response, the Reds were able to score their first run in the bottom of the third, bringing the score to 2-1.
In the top of the fourth, Reds center-fielder Remington Ross (20) made a jumping catch to stop a would-be home run for the Indians, ending that inning.
With the Reds at bat, the Indians led a three-up three-down inning. In the top of the fifth, the Reds returned the favor by not allowing a Strasburg hitter to reach first base.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Celsi Jergensmeier (grade) hit a pop fly that Strasburg’s infielders couldn’t see, followed by catcher Karissa Hatchell (17) hitting a grounder between the first and second basemen, allowing Jergensmeier to run home, scoring the Reds one more run, bringing the score to 3-2.
Nobody scored in the 6th inning, and in the top of the 7th, one Strasburg hitter was struck out, and two hits were caught by two diving catches by the Reds shortstop.
In the bottom of the final inning, the Reds left two players on base as the final hitter was struck out, ending the game with a final score of 3 to 2, Strasburg.
