By Devan McKenney
Eaton Boys Golf started this season with three straight wins in its first three tournaments. The Varsity team is made up of Walker Scott (20), Peter Grossenbacher (19), Ethan Alcazar (18), Andy Geisick (17), and Peyton Jacobson (17). On Monday, Aug 15, the boys won the Greeley West Tournament. The following day they the team won the Holy Family hosted tournament in Broomfield with a score of 225. Thursday, in its own tournament, the team earned an impressive score of 215. Alcazar shot a 70, Grossenbacher 71, Geisick 74, Jacobson 78, and Scott 87.
Geisick, who was impressed with the team’s scores, said, “I feel like we have a good chance of winning state. We are a really strong team. We have really good teamwork and we push each other to be better.”
Team leader, Grossenbacher, said, “The team has been really solid and I’m really proud to have gotten the number-one spot.” Grossenbacher peaked in regionals last year when he shot his season low score of 71 to earn a second-place finish. He averaged a score of 77 during the 2015 season. “I really hope to keep a sub 75 score and put up a great performance at state which I know I am capable of,” Grossenbacher said. Disappointed in his performance in state last year in which he tied for 30th place with scores of 88 and 80, Grossenbacher said he knows that he needs the rest of the team to perform for Eaton to win. “We have a great team and great potential. We need to keep good golf as our number-one priority and make sure to stay humble. It gives me a great sense of pride to lead the great Eaton team as we continue to dominate tournaments everywhere.” Grossenbacher is determined to perform better this year at state, saying, “My goal for state are two under-74 rounds. I have worked so hard.” During the offseason, Grossenbacher met with multiple coaches to improve his game. On average, he was on the golf course at least six times a week preparing for his sophomore year.
