By the Numbers: No Eaton team allowed Erie to win more than two games per set, and no match went into three sets. Number one singles player Myiah Scott beat her opponent, Anne Fischer (16), 6-0 to 6-0 in a sweeping victory. In fact, Eaton’s singles had a great day. Number two singles player Lindsey Leafgren (18) beat her fellow competitor with set scores of 6-1, 6-1. Shelby Naill (17) also won both with scores of 6-1, 6-0. Number one doubles Emily Harper (16) and Courtney Leafgren (17) won with pounding scores of 6-1, 6-1. Harper said, “I think we both killed it on serves today. It is kind of rare for both of us to be on with serving, so that was great for us.” Number two doubles Darcie Kaiser (18) and Makinsey Mawson (17) and number three doubles Kadie Griffith (18) and Ashton Hall (16) finished with winning, identical scores of 6-1, 6-2. Weather factor: The wind was blowing on the day of April 25, and the chill that came from the overcast day did not make for pleasant playing conditions or pleasant viewing conditions. Despite these conditions, players like Scott were not complaining. “It is always a good opportunity to get to work with the wind,” Scott said. “We were still able to hit a lot of good strokes.”
Up Next: Eaton’s last home game before regionals is against the Windsor Wizards on April 27. Windsor is 5-2 overall, according to maxpreps. The have one tournament first place win, and should be worthy competition for the Reds. Amanda Ward (Windsor’s number one singles player) has an 8-2 record, and their number one doubles team has the same record. In a match that should hold more competition for the Reds, this is a home match worth seeing.
