Knowing about the various dictators from across the world and how many atoms are in a molecule of glucose gives students in Knowledge Bowl the quick satisfaction of being correct. The Eaton Knowledge Bowl team competed against 22 other teams from other schools in the Patriot League Jan. 16 at Platte Valley High School. The varsity team, Eaton A, answered the most questions correctly in practices, scored a total of 67 points, earning the team 4th place out of 26.The varsity team trailed behind Estes Park, Strasburg, and Frontier’s varsity teams. Eaton B got 53 points and 14th place. Eaton C landed 16th and earned 51 points. Eaton D got 18th and 47 points.
The club’s coach, Fred Kinney, said, “[Our varsity] team had the highest [written round] score of any team, and they stayed in the top rooms.”
The club determines who letters in Knowledge Bowl by using a point system, where each person gets 1 point for every 25 questions they participate in, and three points for each question they get correct.
Kinney said, “Competition was stiff. There were strong performances from Isaiah Cordova (17), who got 66 points… Lindsey Leafgren (18) earned 55 points, and Adam Richling (18) got 54 points.”
The club has an invitational meet on Jan. 23 in Windsor, and a district meet on Jan. 30 at Frontier Academy.
