Adidas released its plan to help schools with controversial mascots change their identity. During the White House Tribal Nations Conference, Adidas group executive board member Eric Liedtke said, “Importantly, sports must be inclusive. Today we are harnessing the influence of sports in our culture to lead for our communities. Adidas is proud to provide a pathway for high schools and communities who want to create new identities.” The Adidas plan will provide schools its design resources to any schools with ties to Native American culture. Along with the new logo and mascot, Adidas will help provide financial assistance to the school if they need it to make the change. Eaton is on the list of the approximately 2,000 schools across the nation that uses a Native American name or mascot. This controversial topic has been discussed before by the school board. The outside pressure for Eaton to change its mascot came from individuals as well as different bills presented. The Adidas offer gives schools the financial support that may have presented a problem even if the school wanted to change. The mascot controversy continues to make its way into the news. Eaton is just one of many schools that has the opportunity to take the Adidas offer.
