The boys and girls cross country teams are going to state for the 2015 season. The girls will be going back this year. Boys cross country will be heading to state for the first time in 17 years for Eaton. At Monfort Parks on Oct. 22, regionals gave both teams the chance to show what they could do despite the rain. The boys team finished fourth overall and the girls finished second. The girls only trailed three points behind Frontier Academy for second place
Emotions are running high for both teams and the excitement hasn’t worn off. Vivian Renfroe (18) said, “When we all found that the girls and the boys were going to state we cried because we have worked so hard for this. Finding out we were going to stay together was the best feeling.” Abby Schott (17) felt the same way as Renfroe. Schott said, “Knowing that we are going to state is always an awesome feeling! It’s the goal we try to accomplish every year. Although girls are always predicted to go, having the boys be able to finally come with us makes it just more exciting.” Tayler Hays (17) said, “I honestly was more excited to find out that the boys were going to state but it was pretty cool to find out we were going also. It’s the first time in 13 years we have a boys and girls team going.”
Regionals took on a new twist: rain. Renfroe said, “At the beginning of the race running in the rain was cold but once I realized this might be my last race for the season so I didn’t care about the rain anymore. It was just me and the girls running the race.”
State cross country is coming quick. They head to state on October 31 in Colorado Springs.
