It was a game that is dreamed of by young boys and their fathers alike. The field freshly soaked with rain, one of the school’s biggest rivals readying to take the field, and tensions between the two teams rising rapidly. Eaton (3-2, 0-1) fought valiantly against the Platte Valley Broncos (4-1, 1-0) on friday, in an upset that ended 26-6, the Eaton Reds lost to their rivals the Broncos. Perhaps one of the Reds toughest games this year, the loss was not as discouraging to the team as would be expected. “This game was actually good for us as far as working as a team,” said Devan McKenney (17) “our defense did a great job of stopping Platte Valley’s offense.” Although the Reds scored only a single touchdown, it was not a play to be forgotten. Quarterback Austin Colson (18), in a last ditch effort before being tackled let the ball fly to receiver Preston Donlon (16). Fantastically Donlon made the catch that would result in the Reds first and only touchdown late in the first quarter. The loss has not brought the team down, and in fact is being accepted as a learning experience. “Of course we now know what needs to be improved,” said Andres Rincon (17) “we are a little disappointed with a loss, but all we see now is how to move on. We will learn and hopefully see them (Platte Valley) in the playoffs.” Win or lose the boys are happy with how far they have come as a team, and are looking forward to seeing their ever growing sense of brotherhood pay off in the playoffs.
Next week Eaton faces off against The University Bulldogs (1-4, 0-1) on the night of Friday October 9th.
