The School Board has come to a decision, and the search for a new head coach has begun immediately. Steve Longwell the athletic director at EHS was the first to comment on the matter. “I think the advertisement speaks for itself, we are searching for a new coach plain and simple.” The previous coach, Jim Danley, will no longer be involved in the coaching process of the spring baseball program at EHS. “Whether or not he [Danley] will be coaching summer ball is something we have no say in, and if he chooses to is completely up to him,” said Longwell. Superintendent Dr. Randy Miller spoke of the terms Danley and the Eaton School Board were on in the final decision making moments. “I will say this, there was never an agreement reached.”
Miller said the board has high hopes going into the hiring process. “It’ll be the same as hiring any other coach for any other sport,” said Miller “but we have high hopes.” The replacement process should be completed before before the spring baseball season. Although the events of the past month have been long and controversial, Miller expressed his true feelings about the situation, saying, “I wish it could have ended differently. Ideally everyone would have went home happy; sadly that’s just not how it played out.”
As the search process begins, the question of what the effect of the situation on the Eaton Baseball players will be. The team will most likely be affected with the loss of a legendary coach.
