At the first Cross Country meet in Sterling on August 29, junior, McKenzie Reiher ran her way into a second place finish at the meet. Reiher (17) said, “It was exciting to get second because I have never placed that well at a cross country meet before so I was happy.” Eaton competed against seven other schools including Platte Valley, Greeley West, Sterling and Brush. When asked about how he did Joseph Messmer said, “I did…good.” Conner Untiedt (16) finished in sixth place out of one hundred and one runners.
Looking forward into the season, Reiher (17) and Messmer (18) have a good outlook of what is to come. Even when they don’t take a first place finish they are still happy and support the other teams who are competing. “I was really excited for the girl who got first because she is a good friend of mine. I was just happy I did my best,” Reiher said.
Manager, Leah Garcia (16) had a different outlook on the first meet. “It was a lot of fun managing but it was also weird trying to figure out what to do because we have never had one before so it was a learning experience for both the coach and I.” Garcia is a former runner so she has gone through a lot of change since last season. “However I miss running a lot. It was hard to watch the race start without me. But the hardest part was watching the sprints at the end. It’s my favorite part. Its exciting and it’s a challenge seeing who’s faster or who wants to finish first more. And not being able to do the end was sad for me.
The upcoming meet was Friday, September 4 at the Frontier Invite.
