The number of students auditioning for choir was up for the first time in several years. The 2015-16 EHS Eaton Bella Voce and Troubadour choir auditions took place on April 7, and the results of the auditions were posted friday during lunch.
Director Christina Contreras said that the number of students auditioning for the elite choirs in the last three years has been lower than desired, but the number of students auditioning this year are a “better turnout than the last couple years” and especially better than last year.
Sixteen members will make up the 2015-16 For Troubadours Emily Harper, Jayde Contreras, Joslyn Chapman, Lexi Lapp, Koreena Burger, Mariah Jojola, Anastasia Morgan, and Leah Garcia will team up with Andrew Nelson, Alhan Rodriguez, Dominic Pierot, Lucas Halferty, Luke Pickett, Bryce Decker, Jakob Dowdy, and Colton Ingram for next year’s performance choir.
The Bella Voce choir will consist of Ami Dyer, Lindsey Leafgren, Alee Daniels, Hannah Cooper, Jessica Chapman, Elizabeth Leonard, Emilie Julch, Payton Richter, Kim Powell, Natalie Purcell, Savannah Sheets, Mikeldi Lewis, Madelaine Lamb, Lindsey Schwartz, Katelyn Clem, Casse Strole, Breece Gesick, Makaya Chumancero, Zia Rios, Tesha Brown, Mikhala Proctor, EMilia Cruz-Haswell, and Skylar Williams.
The audition process consists of performing a two-minute song, rhythmic and melodic sight reading and an aural recall in front of the judges.
Elite choir students are held to a high standard, and so the expectations for the students auditioning are high, Contreras said. Students are expected to have a well rehearsed audition, practiced site reading and look professional as well as act professionally.
Contreras said that she enjoys listening to the student performers individually as opposed to group singing.
