From the director Clint Eastwood comes the new year hit, American Sniper. After growing up in Texas and never wanting to be anything but a cowboy, Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper)becomes a Navy Seal who is the most pinpoint accurate sniper. One day he finds the love of his life sitting in a bar, and although neither of them knew it yet, he and Taya (Sienna Miller) will face the fight of their lives after she becomes pregnant with their first child. Once Kyle joins the SEALS, he goes on a total of four tours throughout Iraq racking up total of 160 confirmed kills in his time as a sniper. Although this feat earns him the nickname “Legend,” once he came home he could not seem to escape his time in the war.
The movie was based on the autobiography from Chris Kyle. Since its release on January 16, the movie has made $200.1 million domestic total. This movie is rated R for strong and disturbing war violence and language throughout the movie including some sexual references. American Sniper has also been nominated for a Best Picture Oscar There has been a Controversy has arisen over this movie after some people claimed it was racist. Some people dismissed American Sniper as racist. After only a week in the Mansour Mall theater, the movie was pulled because, as a theater employe said, “ the hero of this film boasts of killing more than 160 Muslims.” There has also been rave reviews about the movie too for being such a touching and heartfelt story. American Sniper topped the box office on February 2 because of the anniversary of the death of Chris Kyle. American Sniper is a must see. This movie is violent, but is worth seeing for everyone.
