Just as the temperatures drop, the swimmers dive into the pool. Preseason starts in October and lasts until the middle of November. Danae Duran (15), manager for the swimming team, said, “Preseason helps the girls gain teamwork.” Duran said teamwork helps the girls rid themselves of nerves before meets even though the girls compete as individuals. Justice Muro (15) said, “We immediately care about each other as a family would.” During preseason, swimmers alternate their training between dryland and swimming. Dryland means that swimmers work on weightlifting and conditioning. The official season starts Wednesday, December 12. Despite losing some key members of the team, the swimmers are optimistic the coming season will be filled with wins. Muro has been a member of the team all four years of high school. She said, “I also feel that most of the girls on the team will be able to go to state.” When the season starts, swimmers will practice every day after school, and divers will meet before school some days. Swimmers will kick of their season with a match against Estes Park on Tuesday, Dec. 4.
