The Eaton Reds football team claimed victory in state quarterfinals on Saturday, Nov. 8 against the Gunnison Cowboys, 43-21. The MVP of the game was senior running back, Nick Schreiber, with 175 rushing yards, one touchdown, and an 85-yard interception. Schreiber credits his team for the win. He said, “ That leading by example is important for the team’s success, we all worked together and set each other up for the win.” Wide receiver, Darren Troudt (15) said, “We played as a team and we peaked at the right moment. Everything seemed to just fall into place.” In the state tournament, the Reds have knocked out the fourth and fifth seeded in the tournament. In the game on Saturday two players, both running backs, were injured. Brady Tedesco (15) injured his MCL and Junior Dalton Waln injured his ankle. According to Tedesco, both players will be out for the rest of the season. Tedesco said, “I will be there for the team, but now I won’t be able to lead by example. Now I can just be a mentor to the team” He stresses the importance of stepping up as seniors to be leaders for the younger players. The victory will advance the Reds to the semifinals, where they will challenge the Brush Beetdiggers at home on Saturday Nov. 15 at 1pm.
